Wealth

Dec 2024

When I was 7, I dressed up as a $20 bill for Halloween. I made the costume myself with poster board and spent the evening trick-or-treating as money.

My parents have many stories like this, and growing up I would frequently correlate success with monetary milestones. Subconsciously I felt reaching financial independence or conquering a career goal would bring me the most fulfillment.

This past year, I finally understood that the only true wealth in life is in personal relationships. Undoubtedly money improves quality of life, but when I’m sitting on my deathbed I’m sure not going to say, “Man, I wish I made more money.”

I accomplished a huge amount related to my career and financial independence over the past few years. However, I realized the last thing I want is to wake up 20 years from now with only monetary wealth.

I do not believe career excellence and strong personal relationships are mutually exclusive, and in 2025 I want to have more people-focused goals. The only times I’ve felt truly wealthy are in moments shared with others.
